She's Pup-tastic!

I love Dara Louise, our sweet, crazy puppy. We adopted her from a pet rescue on the east coast when she was just eight weeks old. Her mama had a litter of ten puppies (!!) and the shelter was going to put them all down when Good Karma Pet Rescue swooped in and saved them. Thank goodness! Dara is Ezra’s best friend and people-food-eating enabler. They share everything, from toys to snacks (sometimes kid snacks and sometimes dog snacks- when mama isn’t fast enough.)

When Dara was still the same size as Ez, they used to wrestle on the floor and play nicely. Unfortunately, my little guy got quickly outgrown by his buddy and now Dara can knock him over with just her tail. Part of that is just her puppy energy, and she really enjoys our early morning runs each day. We have a lot of nature by our home and Dara isn't intimidated by any of it. She chases turkeys, bunnies, raccoons, and the ever fierce golf carts.

This feisty lady has filled a void in our family that Porter and Maverick left. Porter was Chase’s dog and he passed away unexpectedly a few years ago, before Cayden and Ezra had a chance to really know him.

It took me a while to warm up to the idea of another dog. My beloved pup, Maverick Nicole, was lost to me during my divorce. It’s hard finding a new dog that can replace the pain in your heart. Dara is frustrating and needy and obsessed with digging up the yard, but I can’t picture our family without her. Here’s to man’s (and woman’s) best friend!

Oh, and if you happen to be in the Boca Raton area next weekend, check out Bark After Dark 2018- a charity event where 100% of all money raised goes to Good Karma Pet Rescue to further its mission of saving abandoned and homeless animals of South Florida and nearby areas.

With Love,
Susanne
